Copa America latest

12 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Erik Lamela and DeAndre Yedlin both featured as Argentina and the USA progressed to the quarter-finals of the Copa America - but it was bitter-sweet news for DeAndre.

The full-back started in the USA's final group match against Paraguay in Philadelphia in the early hours of Sunday but was sent off in after receiving a second yellow card in the second half.

Former Spur Clint Dempsey hit the winner as the US topped their group and will now play either Brazil, Peru or Equador in the last eight on Thursday.

Erik came off the bench for injured Angel Di Maria in the 41st minute as Argentina beat Panama 5-0 in Chicago.

It was 1-0 at the break but the arrival of Lionel Messi sparked Argentina into life as the Barca star hit a hat-trick in 19 minutes. Sergio Aguero completed the scoring. Argentina are set to play either Mexico or Venezuela in the quarter-final on Saturday.
