Copa America Final heartbreak for Erik

27 June 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Erik Lamela suffered penalty shootout agony with Argentina in the Copa America Final in the early hours of this morning (Monday, June 27).

The attacking midfielder continued his record of appearing in every one of Argentina’s games at the centennial tournament when he went on as a substitute in the showpiece match against reigning champions Chile at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

His introduction came in extra time, with the scores having been level at 0-0 at the end of the 90 minutes.

However, with the sides still locked in stalemate after the additional period, penalties were required to decide the destination of the trophy and Erik could only watch on as his nation lost the shootout 4-2.

Erik can now look forward to a short break before returning to Hotspur Way for pre-season training.
