Christian ready for Andros reunion

14 May 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen is looking forward to locking horns with former Spur Andros Townsend in Sunday’s trip to Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old winger swapped White Hart Lane for St James’ Park in the January transfer window and has made a big impact on Tyneside with four goals in 12 appearances to date, although he wasn’t able to prevent his side from suffering relegation to the Championship – an outcome rubber-stamped by Sunderland’s midweek victory over Everton.

Looking ahead to our final day clash in the north-east, Christian says our players’ familiarity with Andros following his time at the club – which saw the England international make 93 senior appearances after coming up through the Academy – doesn’t make him any less of a threat as we look to bring the curtain down on 2015-16 by cementing runners-up spot in the Premier League table.

“He’s a tricky player to be up against,” said the Danish international. “If he’s having a good day with all his tricks and crosses then he’s a really good player and a very difficult person to face.

“Obviously all the lads who are playing against him know how he is so it’s nothing new in that respect but still it will be a really fun game and hopefully one that we can win.

“First off, we need to secure our place in the top two. It would be a shame to lose it – that would be hard for the players and for the fans as well.

“It’s going to be a new game and it depends on how we do compared to Newcastle with our mentality. It will be a tough one but hopefully we can win and second place will be safe.”
