Situated in eastern part of Sham Alam in Selangor, the stadium has a capacity of 80,372 and was the biggest stadium in Malaysia until the completion of the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
Selangor FA hosted a tourmanent with Bayern Munich, Leeds, Dundee United, Flamengo and the Australian national team to official open the stadium. Scottish international Billy McKinley scored the first goal in the stadium in a 1-1 draw against the hosts. Brazilian giants Flamengo won the tournament.
Flamengo returned a year later as Shah Alam Stadium hosted it's first Malaysia XI match, a 1-1 draw in May, 1995.
It was another 13 years before the Malaysia XI returned as Chelsea won2-0 in July, 2008 and the Blues visited again in July, 2013, this time running out 4-1 winners.
A month later, the stadium played host to La Liga giants Barcelona, who ran out 3-1 winners against Malaysia XI.
A major landmark in Shah Alam, the stadium is also used for athletics and go-kart racing while Bon Jovi played a concert at the venue on May 4, 1995.
GETTING TO THE SHAH ALAM STADIUM
We have been advised of the following ways to get to the stadium...
1. Take a taxi to Shah Alam Stadium from wherever you are in the city - customers are advised to confirm prices before travelling.
2. Get to KL Sentral (KL Sentral is KL's premiere transport hub, easily to locate) and from KL Sentral Station take the KTM Komuter train to Batu Tiga Station. From Batu Tiga Station take a taxi to Shah Alam Stadium. (approximate travel time from KL Sentral is 90 minutes).
3. Take the LRT train to Universiti Station. From there take bus RapidKL U88 to Shah Alam Bus Terminal, then take RapidKL U605 to Shah Alam Stadium.
4. Get on the KTM Komuter at KL Sentral and exit at KTM Komuter Shah Alam. From there take a taxi to the stadium. Distance from KTM Komuter Shah Alam to the stadium is 7.4km and taxi fare is approximately RM14.00-17.00, estimated travel time is 12 minutes.
