India Spurs continue fine work alongside Special Olympics in Mumbai

Members of India Spurs joined forces with Special Olympics Bharat for an end-of-season celebration in Mumbai - all captured by huge Indian broadcaster Star Sports.

In the first engagement between SO Bharat and the Mumbai chapter of India Spurs, eight players and four coaches from SO participated in a unified five-a-side exhibition match in Lower Parel, Mumbai.

With three SO athletes on either side, the match between the Red and Blue teams ended 3-3 and went down to a dramatic penalty shoot-out, the Blue team eventually coming out on top.

Aditya Tendulkar, head of the Mumbai chapter of India Spurs, added: "The high level of football was clearly evident but what was more impressive was hearing the coaches talk about the training the athletes were put through as they prepared for the World Games last summer.

"It's always a proud moment to be able to help but I think next time I might ask these athletes to give me a few tips!"

The event was covered by Indian broadcaster Star Sports with video of the day screened on their weekly football show 'Let's Talk football'.

It's the latest example of India Spurs' work alongside SO Bharat.

Askay Sud, Chairman of India Spurs, has introduced more and more members to Special Olympics, who have engaged with SO athletes in Bangalore, Haryana, Chennai and Mumbai.

Last year , members of the Bangalore chapter of India Spurs even ran their own session to give young people with learning difficulties the chance to play football alongside mainstream school children of a similar age at the Rashtriya Military School.

The Club has a long-standing global relationship with Special Olympics, an international charity aimed at providing sporting opportunities for athletes with learning disabilities across the world.

Our Global Coaching team has supported Special Olympics projects on recent Club tours in USA, Malaysia and Australia, while our Foundation has run Unified Football projects in partnership with Special Olympics GB on a local level.
