Spurs Ladies land top honours at FA Women's Football Awards

Spurs Ladies' magnificent 2016-17 campaign was recognised at the FA Women's Football Awards on Friday night.

Karen Hills was named FA Women's Premier League Manager of the Year while the Club picked up the FAWPL Club of the Year at the prestigious event staged at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.

What a season! Unbeaten in all competitions until March – a run of 27 matches stopped only by Arsenal in the FA Cup – the team reached three cup finals for the second-successive season and then, in chronological order, won the Boux Avenue Cup, won the FAWPL South title in front of 2,000 fans at White Hart Lane, completed the double by defending the League Cup and finally, the icing on the cake, registered a 3-0 win against Blackburn Rovers in the FAWPL national play-off to secure a place in the Women's Super League for the first time.

Karen, a highly-rated former player and FA Cup winner with Charlton, has taken the team up the pyramid from the South-East division of the FAWPL to the WSL in almost 10 years at the helm.

“I’m so proud to pick up this award but it really is for everyone at the Club, the players, coaches and all the staff behind the scenes who work so hard,” said Karen.

“Last season was phenomenal and a dream come true for everyone to win the league title at White Hart Lane. You really couldn’t have written that script.

“To then win the play-off and gain promotion to the WSL was a fantastic achievement. The players were so focused and driven and fully deserved that reward. We always relished the challenge of playing WSL teams in cup competitions and now we’re in there, ready to compete.

“The great thing is that the players see this as just the start. They are determined to keep pushing the Club forward. We’ve made some great additions to the squad, the players are together and we can’t wait to get started.”

Spurs Ladies open their first-ever WSL campaign with a trip to Durham in WSL 2 on Sunday 24 September.
