Spurs Ladies held by Villa

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies were forced to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw in the Midlands after Jenna Schillaci’s goal was clawed back by Aston Villa’s Elisha N’Dow in the Women's Super League 2 on Sunday.

However, Karen Hills’ side will feel it’s two points dropped in their penultimate WSL game of the season, after numerous chances went amiss.

Sarah Wiltshire’s right-sided cross to the back-post forced Amy West to vitally head away with Wendy Martin eager to head in within four minutes.

Ryah Vyse set Lucia Leon from the left, who hit a swerving volley inches wide of the post from outside the box a minute later.

Bianca Baptiste’s cross came within a whisker of being turned home by Leon inside the six-yard box, on nine minutes.

Ashleigh Neville headed Schillaci’s corner towards goal on to see Aja Aguirre push onto the crossbar. The skipper followed that up with another corner that evaded Martin’s free header with 11 minutes played.

Six minutes on, Schillaci’s inside right 30-yard free-kick was flicked-on by Neville towards the far corner, forcing Aguirre to get down low.

Half-way through the first period, Elizabeth Ejupi played Natasha Baptiste in on goal and her near-post strike was palmed away by Morgan. Neville burst down the right and picked out Wiltshire inside the box but she couldn’t generate the power to guide inside the post on 37 minutes.

Reaching 40 minutes, The Lilywhites made their dominance count as Schillaci’s corner hit off the post and found its way in past Aguirre.

Two minutes on, Vyse set Wiltshire to hit a cracking strike off the post. Wiltshire placed Baptiste’s cross just wide at the back-post, before Coral-Jade Haines’ dipper from afar landed on the roof of the net.

Ten minutes into the restart, Wiltshire played across to Haines, who hit over from outside the box.

Schillaci vitally deflected West‘s thunderous effort onto the post on 57 minutes. A minute on, N’Dow turned in the hosts’ corner following a goalmouth scramble to equalise.

With 76 minutes on the clock, West broke towards goal from the right which culminated in Renee Hector’s outstretched leg clearing the ball off the line.

And Spurs could have won it with nine minutes left. Rea Laudat broke down the right and set Wiltshire up to hit with clout from six-yards, which Aguirre denied.
