WE SHOWED CHARACTER - AARON

Aaron Lennon said the players had the belief they would turn the match around at Sunderland.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time after dominating long periods of the first half, the team responded with two goals in the space of four minutes at the start of the second half to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead.

'Azza' played a huge part with an outstanding winning goal.

Picking the ball up 25 yards from goal, he darted into the box, slipped the ball pas John O'Shea and had the pace to nip around the defender and get there first to slot pas the advancing Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet stopped us adding to the scoreline as it ended with a deserved 2-1 win and stretched our run to six wins and a draw in our last eight matches in the Premier League.

"We started well," said Aaron. "We went a goal down but we were on top of the game, it was against the run of play.

"We showed our character and it was a strong 90 minutes for us.

"The manager told us (at half-time) to keep going, we were on top and we all felt that if we could come out strongly in the second half we'd win the game."
