GROUNDS FOR DELIGHT
Posted 05 December 2012 06:20am
The Club’s groundstaff team are in the running for a top honour at the Institute of Groundsmanship’s prestigious awards.
The finalists have been announced for the 2012 IOG Industry Awards and we are one of two teams to be named in the IOG Professional Sports Ground Team of the Year award.
The other finalist is Leeds Rugby, while sports ground teams who were nominated but failed to reach the final included the All England Lawn Tennis Association, responsible for the courts at Wimbledon.
The IOG Awards acknowledge the high standards achieved by volunteer and professional groundscare skills and facilities, from grassroots through to professional stadia level. Now in their fourth year, the awards recognise achievement, innovation, fresh thinking and expertise in the world of groundsmanship.
Grounds Manager, Darren Baldwin, said: “To make the final is a great achievement and reward for all the hard work and dedication of my entire team.
"For me, if there was any award within the industry that I’d like to win, it’s the Team award as it is an acknowledgement of everyone in the department at the Club.”
The awards ceremony takes place at York Racecourse tomorrow - Thursday, December 6 - when all the winners will be announced.
