CLUB COMMITS SUPPORT TO VETERANS INTERVIEW PROGRAMME
Posted 04 July 2012 12:02am
The Club is delighted to announce that it will be supporting the Veterans Interview Programme being launched at the House of Commons today (4 July) by Rt Hon Jim Murphy MP. As part of our support for this immensely worthwhile initiative, the Club has set out a new policy to ensure that any veteran of the UK Armed Services applying for a position is guaranteed an interview. We shall also be working with our suppliers and contracted agencies to encourage them to adopt a similar policy.
We recognise that ex-Service personnel can bring significant skills and qualities to the workforce, which have been developed during their time in the armed forces including their ability to be well organised, interact with others, and thrive under pressure. The Club has already successfully employed a veteran in a key role within the organization and regularly employs ex-military agency personnel for events such as tours and away trips.
Alongside our support for this scheme, the Club has built an excellent relationship with the Armed Forces over the years and is committed to supporting our servicemen and women across various campaigns. This includes fundraising for the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes, charitable auctions and donations of merchandise and kit, as well as regularly providing tickets to matches for those serving in the forces through the Tickets for Troops campaign. Additionally our players and staff take an active interest in the armed forces and recently visited Headley Court to meet with members of the British Armed Forces that suffer with physical disabilities and post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of conflict.
The Veterans Interview Programme
The scheme, in which companies voluntarily guarantee an interview for job seeking ex-Forces and other forms of employment support for veterans, was officially launched with 21 leading UK employers having already signed up to the scheme alongside the Club including O2, John Lewis, Crossrail, Greggs, Centrica, Comet, Wickes and New Look. Other sports organisations also taking part include the English Rugby Football Union, the Scottish Football Association and Celtic Football Club.
