ANDRE ON THE DRAW
Posted 15 March 2013 3:38pm
Andre Villas-Boas has paid full respect to our Europa League quarter-final opponents FC Basel, describing it as 'a difficult draw'.
The Swiss team knocked out highly-rated Zenit in the Round of 16 when they held onto a 2-0 lead from the first leg, losing 1-0 in the return on Thursday night despite going down to 10 men.
Currently second in the Swiss Super League, Basel toppled Ukraine side Dnipro in the Round of 32 having kicked-off their European campaign in 2012-13 back in July in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
The first leg of our quarter-final tie is at White Hart Lane on Thursday, April 4 with the return at Basel's St Jakob Park Stadium a week later, April 11.
"It's a difficult draw," said Andre. "Basel have enjoyed some amazing results in Europe in the last three years, particularly against Manchester United, Bayern and Benfica.
"This is a team that has put out Zenit, who in turn had beaten Liverpool in the previous round, so that shows the quality of the side.
"I'm happy that it's a short trip for our fans and their stadium is magnificent."
