Emmanuel Adebayor helped Togo create history by securing a place in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations on Wednesday.

Ade created the goal for Serge Gakpe as Togo took the lead against Tunisia in their final group game in Nelspruit.

Khaled Mouelhi levelled for Tunisia from the penalty spot but the same player then missed from the spot as Togo held on for 1-1 and a place in the quarter-finals for the first time.

Togo take on Burkino Faso in the last eight back at the Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit, on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Bongani Khumalo will lead the hosts South Africa into the quarter-finals against Mali at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, on Saturday.
