  • Tottenham Hotspur Global Coaching Team Say Tour 2014 is huge success

The Tottenham Hotspur’s Global Coaching team has been active in supporting the First Team’s pre-season tour through Seattle, Toronto and Chicago.

  • The Global Coaching team’s tour started in Seattle where the group worked with partner organisation, Special Olympics International, for whom Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are global ambassadors.

Special Olympics International work with people with intellectual disabilities through sport, to discover new skills and abilities in a fun, safe and enjoyable environment. The team put on a specially designed coaching workshop for local Special Olympics and Seattle Sounders FC coaches, whilst linking in with Special Olympic athletes to demonstrate high quality football sessions.

Athletes and coaches alike learned a lot throughout day. One experienced coach commented: “All of the athletes and coaches that I spoke with after the session were highly impressed with your group and I think everyone gained a lot of information that they can take back to their teams.”

To finish off the Seattle leg of the tour the Global Coaching team had a skills activation zone on the match-day, whilst putting on a Coaches workshop for youth club coaches from around the city. The workshop allowed local players and coaches of all abilities to experience an advanced style of coaching based on the Tottenham Hotspur philosophy.

From Seattle the team travelled to Toronto where the Global Coaching team co-hosted a Football Roadshow event at Lamport Stadium with youth club, Clarkson Sheridan Soccer Club. The Roadshow event saw over 80 boys and girls aged 10 to 15 participate in a fun and competitive training session, coached by the Global coaches.

On the back of the Football Roadshow the team supported a community event with U12 players from Toronto Nitros. The young participants were treated to a training session by our Global Coaching team and were lucky enough to have a Q&A session with Aaron Lennon, Younes Kaboul, Club Ambassador Ledley King and former Spurs players Paul Stalteri and Jermain Defoe.

The Global Coaching team now move on to Chicago, where we will be working with youth football club Lemont Raiders, as well as working alongside coaches and players of Chicago Fire FC.
