Spurs Global Coaching Team welcomed the boys from Clerihan FC in Southern Ireland for a combination of team coaching and Premier League match action. This was a ‘Tottenham Hotspur Experience’ they’ll never forget.
Clerihan FC Chairman Pat Power takes up the story: “The boys were mad excited for the day, asking each other questions about what the pitches would be like and who their coaches would be. For the entire weekend all they were talking about was going to Spurs Lodge and how amazing it was going to be.”Pat was full of praise for Spurs coaching summing it up in two words: “Top Class! The coaches were great with the lads. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left they were chatting with the lads telling them different things about Spurs Lodge and the Academy. “From a coaching perspective the coaches were excellent, they worked on confidence on the ball with every player and even just that one session has made a huge impact on how they act when the ball is now at their feet. If players were struggling a small bit they helped them one to one or as a group slowed it down to insure the lads got the hang of it.”After that they moved on to working on team shape. Pat noted: “Clerihan F.C and Tottenham Hotspur both use the 4-2-3-1 formation, so it was an excellent experience for the lads, as they seemed to really react to how the formation is meant to be played.” The focus then shifted to finishing in the ‘redzone’ which aimed for attacking quickness inside and around the 18 yard box. “This was a brilliant game that worked the whole team and something that the team enjoyed greatly,” said Pat.The facilities at Spurs Lodge drew special praise: “Superb! The pitches were in immaculate condition not a thread of grass out of place. The dressing rooms were the same spacious with pictures of some of the Spurs greats hanging on the wall such as Ledley King. We got a real feeling of what it would be like to be a Spurs player. Organisation was top notch also. Cones set out and ready and timing followed to the second.”Then it was all about the build-up to the big match element of the Experience –the home game against West Ham at White Hart Lane. “Amazing! What an experience it was for our Group. Walking out to the seats taking in the freshly-cut grass, the perfectly sloped pitch the vibrant blue of the seats, and the large Crest hanging above the screen and last but not least the roar from the crowd as the players emerged onto the pitch an atmosphere like no other.”Asked to sum-up the whole Experience, Pat didn’t hold back: “The best experience of a life time! The joy it brought to our group is priceless! The package was amazing and is something that I would not hesitate in doing again. We at Clerihan F.C would like to thank all of those at Tottenham Hotspur F.C for giving us the chance to do this trip and the coaching staff for the inspiring effect they had on the players.”
