Gareth Bale might have taken the headlines after his latest goal-den strike at West Ham, but Michael Dawson turned the spotlight on another team-mate after our thrilling 3-2 win at Upton Park on Monday night.
With Jussi Jaaskelainen performing miracles at the other end, the Hammers suddenly broke through in the 74th minute as Matt Jarvis sent Matt Taylor clean through on goal.
Before the midfielder had time to think, Hugo Lloris was out in flash to make a vital block.
As Michael pointed-out, the score was 2-1 at the time and 3-1 was 'probably game-over'. Instead, Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised two minutes later and after more heroics from Jaaskelainen, Gareth saved the best until last to clinch the three points.
"One guy I want to mention is Hugo," said Michael. "He pulled me out of jail when I played Matty Taylor onside. He’s got a real shiner for it as well!
"That was massive. It was 2-1 at the time and at 3-1, it’s probably game over, certainly in terms of winning.
"It would be hard to come back from there, but Hugo made a tremendous save and he did the same in the first half (save from Jarvis) as well.
"Hugo has certainly settled in well, he’s been brilliant since he’s been in the team and he deserves a massive mention as well."
Meanwhile, it was another bruising night for Michael up against Andy Carroll, a player he once described facing as 'like going 10 rounds with Mike Tyson' after a match against Newcastle.
"It was certainly no different!" he said. "It’s always a tough test against Andy, a few elbows here and there, but that’s football."
It was suggested Michael loved those physical match-ups. "Yes, I love it when we win," he smiled.
