CLINT CLOCKS UP AIR MILES

Clint Dempsey is clocking up the air miles again as he bids to help USA to the World Cup Finals.
The US Soccer Men’s Athlete of the Year has hooked up with Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad for the first match of the final phase of qualifying in the North, Central America and Caribbean zone.
Six countries – USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica and Panama – play each other home and away with the top three qualifying for the 2014 finals in Brazil. The team in fourth place goes into the intercontinental play-off.
The US – who have qualified for every World Cup Finals since 1990 and topped England’s group in South Africa, 2010 – kick-off this final qualifying phase with a trip to Honduras on Wednesday night.
“It’s the last round of qualifying for the World Cup and if we want to participate in Brazil, we have to take care of business,” said Clint.
“It was difficult in the first round and this won’t be any different. The first game is away in Honduras and it’s an important game because you want to start the final round of qualifying on the right footing.”
Clint went on to explain his travel itinerary for the trip. “I fly out Monday to the States, Tuesday to Honduras, Wednesday we’re playing the game, fly back to the States on Thursday and then fly back to the UK.
“That’s a situation (the players from) both countries have to deal with. It’s tough, but you have to deal with it. You have to make sure you are ready. That’s all you can do.”
