Andre Villas-Boas admitted things 'just didn’t go our way' as we slipped to a rare home defeat against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
Dimitar Berbatov scored the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute.
Andre conceded that we didn’t create the chances we normally create - although still 12-6 efforts on goal in our favour - and Fulham defended well once they went ahead.
The closest we came in a somewhat subdued first half was when Gareth Bale’s glancing header from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s corner was cleared off the line by Sascha Riether.
Jermain Defoe was then foiled twice by Mark Schwarzer in the Fulham goal - the second a fantastic point-blank block that denied us a point in the final minute.
“We couldn’t play our football as well as we have at home recently, particularly against Arsenal and Inter Milan,” reflected Andre.
“We couldn’t create as many chances as usual and when Fulham scored, they closed down the spaces well and made it very hard for us,
“It was the latter stage of the game that we had the chances with Jermain Defoe and if we’d have got the equaliser we might have been able to push on for a late winner. But Schwarzer denied him and Fulham took the win.
“It’s one of those defeats you have to reflect on, the desire was there, the effort was there but things didn’t go our way.
"Everybody is disappointed with the result. We will regroup after the international break and look to bounce back against Swansea."
Meanwhile, Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson have both withdrawn from the England squad to face San Marino and Montenegro through injury.
