GREAT PLAYERS
Peter Baker
INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME
One of the unsung heroes of our double-winning side, Peter Baker made 342 senior appearances for us in 12 years.
Capped at youth level by England, Baker joined us in June 1949, turned professional a year later and made himself a regular by 1956-57.
Hampstead-born Baker was one-half of a formidable full-back pairing alongside Ron Henry as we landed the title and FA Cup in 1961 and another FA Cup in 1962.
A no-nonsense defender, he linked supebly with Danny Blanchflower as he added a European Cup Winners Cup medal to his collection in 1963.
He moved to South Africa in 1965 to play for Durban United, who he later managed. Still a regular visitor to the Lane when he returns to this country.
Appearances/goals: 299/3 (LG), 27/0 (FAC), 16/0 (EUR)
