INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME

Nicknamed 'The Ghost' after his ability to pop up from nowhere to make key contributions in matches, John White was an ever-present in our double-winning side of 1960-61.

Signed for £20,000 back in 1959, he made an immediate impact with a goal on his debut and from that point, was a fixture in the team.

A superbly balanced footballer with an ability to both create and score goals, White added the 1962 FA Cup and 1963 Cup Winners' Cup to his double haul and won 22 caps for Scotland.

But White's is a tragic story. His second sporting love was golf and it was at Crews Hill GC in Enfield in 1964 that his life was cut short when the tree he was sheltering under from a thunderstorm was struck by lighting. He was just 27.

Appearances/goals: 183/40 (LG), 19/1 (FAC), 17/6 (EUR)
