Content:
The Positive Futures programme targets some of the most disadvantaged areas in the country and offers young people aged 12 - 19 the chance to take part in positive activities up to five times a week, 48 weeks of the year. Positive Futures is a national social inclusion programme that uses sport and leisure activities to engage young people who are at risk of becoming involved with anti-social behaviour, drug misuse and youth crime. Through the work of our coaches/mentors and the routine of physical activities and themed workshops, our aim is to improve the outcome for the young people we work with on the programme.

Why needed:
•    As a result of research by the Metropolitan Police, it was identified that there was a desperate need for an intervention programme in the Hornsey area of the borough and, in particular, around the Campsbourne Estate.
•    The Campsbourne Estate is among the top 10% of deprived estates in the UK.
•    Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green has referred to the Campsbourne Estate as 'a badly treated part of the Hornsey ward (Haringey) where it nestles in a seemingly forgotten backwater.'
•    There is high level of unemployment on the estate – higher than that of the National average.
•    There are serious issues around drug dealing among the young people living on the estate, who number around 1000.

Impact:
•    80+ young people have registered on the programme to date.
•    More than 30 young people have volunteered their time on the programme.
•    A number of football matches and tournaments have taken place against various youth clubs and community projects from other wards and boroughs, helping to break down barriers between young people from different postcodes.
•    Workshops delivered to date include: dangers of guns and knives, sexual health awareness and the dangers of gang culture.
•    Young people have been given the opportunity to access over 288 hours of provision through the programme to date.

I have been very happy with the Foundation’s programme. Residents from across the Campsbourne Estate keep telling me how much the young people from across the estate value the programme - the consistent structure, ambition and sense of achievement the coaching and programme of games have brought to their lives. Along with this message residents are also remarking on how much quieter and safer the estate now feels.
