|ANDRE DELIGHTED WITH WIDE OPTIONS|
Andre Villas-Boas has lauded the options he has at his disposal down the flanks as we seek to mount another winning run in the Barclays Premier League.
Andros Townsend has been the name on everybody’s lips after he burst onto the international scene in style with England in the recent World Cup qualifiers – games which saw the 22-year-old carry over his fine performances out wide for us this term to the Three Lions’ exploits.
Of course, we also have talented attacker Erik Lamela pushing for a place in the side, while long-serving right winger Aaron Lennon is just returning to action following a spell on the sidelines through injury.
The opposite flank boasts similar strength in depth with both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Nacer Chadli having got in among the goals this term – and Head Coach Andre says the competition for places only benefits the squad as a whole.
“Competition will be for the spaces in the flanks,” said Andre as he anticipates the fixture programme ahead. “It’s nothing different than what we’ve had before.
“We have Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela, Lennon and Townsend and Sigurdsson; all players that can play in the channels. There’s two positions only up for grabs so they will have to compete. I’d expect nothing different.
“We have to give credit for what the people that have been playing have been doing. At the moment Townsend is doing well, Sigurdsson is doing well. Erik and Chadli, whenever they have come in, they have done well – Chadli has scored some recent goals, so they’re all up there in contention.
“Lennon with the spirit that he has, the combative player that he is, I think he will put on some competition.”
