|I ALWAYS LOOK TO GET BETTER - BRAD|
Brad Friedel says he feels good this pre-season.
He’s underlined that with the way he’s been throwing himself about in the humidity of Hong Kong this week with coach Tony Parks, Hugo Lloris and Heurelho Gomes.
He then followed that up with a fine display in the second half of our Barclays Asia Trophy opener against Sunderland, making a string of fine saves as we left gaps searching for an equaliser.
That included one magnificent claw out of the very top corner to deny Connor Wickham.
“I’ve been happy with how I’ve felt in pre-season,” he said. “Whenever you can get the ball out of the top corner, you are happy. But all this is pre-season, we’ll work hard, get through it and hopefully on August 18, we’ll be ready.”
Goalkeeper training is notoriously tough – throwing yourself to the ground, getting up again quickly, doing it again and again – but at the age of 42, Brad shows no signs of letting up.
“Once you hit 36, 37, you have to do a little extra,” he explained.
“That’s not so much hours out there on the pitch, but days off are limited now. I will always look to get better and play as long as I enjoy it and as long as I can do it.”
