The German star is sporting a swollen left eye after a nasty clash of heads with Coventry's Patrick Suffo in Monday's reserve game left him with a cut requiring five stitches.
Serious injuries have restricted Christian to just two first team appearances in over a year - 45 minutes against Blackburn in May and an hour against West Ham in September.
It's no wonder that he views this eye injury as a 'little setback' and he was training again on Thursday.
He said: "Someone said to me it's just a little one for me and it is just a setback, I needed five stitches, I have a big eye but I'm okay and training again.
"It's a bit sad because I thought if I played 90 minutes on Monday I might have a chance of being in the squad against Liverpool.
"But it's not too bad, I'm out of the game for over a year basically so another week later or sooner won't make a lot of difference!"
As for his overall fitness, Christian was positive. "For the first 25 minutes on Monday I felt fantastic," he added. "Everthing is fine and hopefully I'll be ready for next week."
Christian Ziege says the biggest blow of his latest setback is losing the outside chance of making the squad against Liverpool.
