The World Cup finalist was making excellent progress following a serious thigh injury when what has thankfully proved to be a minor setback occurred.
Now an exploratory operation has found no ligament or cartilage damage and he remains on course in his quest for fitness.
"The problem was nothing to do with the thigh but we still felt it best to have it looked at," reported manager Glenn Hoddle.
"An exploratory op showed that there was nothing wrong and that no further surgery was needed so it won’t impede his progress and we’re obviously delighted with that news."
Christian Ziege's misfortune looked set to continue when our German international wing-back twisted his knee in training.
