Christian put in a 90-minute stint in the win over Wimbledon at Stevenage - his third in succession after games against Southampton and Watford.
Chris explains that the re-introduction of the elegant leftie to first team affairs is now all about timing and, as far as possible, removing any danger of him breaking down after such long period out.
"He's not far away," he insisted. "The thing with Christian is, once he comes back from an injury, generally it doesn't take him too long to get back into the pattern of things.
"His fitness level is usually there too because he works very hard in his rehab work. The decision we've got to make is when to bring him into the frame because he has been out a long time.
"I look at it from the initial injury, I think you have to rather than the last time when he broke down. He has missed a lot of football and we have to be confident when we bring him back that he is not going to break down again."
Chris Hughton revealed that Christian Ziege is 'not far away' from first team contention after the German international completed another reserve outing on Monday.
