The German wing-back was the star of the show in the first half with several charging runs and clever link play.
He admitted later that he did not expect to feel so fresh and sharp after being absent since the end of September with a torn calf muscle.
"I felt quite good, yes, I was surprised," he said. "It was enjoyable, in the first half I think I did quite a lot and I'm pleased with the performance."
After sustaining the calf injury, Christian stated that he did not want to return to action until he was completely fit and ready in order to avoid suffering further setbacks. So is he now at this point?
"I hope so! You never know what might happen next but, like I said before, I want to make sure that I'm really fit. That was the reason why I only played half a game, a good half, so it is better that way."
Christian Ziege reported no ill-effects from his 45 minute run-out for the reserves on Monday against Leicester City.
