Your 100 Greatest Spurs Moments: No.9

Posted on 25 June 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

We countdown the top 10 of our 'Your 100 Greatest Spurs Moments' as voted by the fans last summer.

WE PUT together the 'Greatest Spurs Moments' series last summer expecting, as always, a huge response - but we didn't expect the variety of moments that we would receive.

In the end, the series was changed to 'Your 100 Greatest Spurs Moments' but we've realised that we will not be able to run every one.

So we've put together a list of the top 100 moments - found below - and will run the top 10, as voted by you, over the next two weeks.

Thanks again for your terrific response...

YOUR 100 GREATEST SPURS MOMENTS: TOP 10

NUMBER NINE: GINOLA TIES TYKES IN KNOTS
Dateline: March 16, 1999
Venue: Oakwell
Match: FA Cup, quarter-final, Barnsley 0 Tottenham Hotspur 1

One of the great goals of our modern history and arguably le magnifique Frenchman's finest moment in a Spurs shirt.

Ginola was on fire as we won the Worthington Cup and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1998-99 - remember Wimbledon and Leeds in the FA Cup, Manchester United in the League Cup - but this was the pick of the bunch.

With 68 minutes on the clock in front of typically fiesty Oakwell, Ginola picked the ball up on the left touchline. Nothing was on, apparently, but Ginola went on a run that took him past four defenders before he calmly slotted right-foot into the corner.

Here are your memories...

My greatest moment was up in Barnsley on a cold Tuesday night. I had travelled up the previous sat for the game to be postponed due to snow. David Ginola picked the ball up just in front of me on the touchline and the rest is magnifique! D&M Cohen.

My greatest Spurs moment was when Ginola dribbled round about 2,000 (it seemed that many) Barnsley players in a cup replay and tucked the ball in the bottom of the net. I ripped my shirt off and ran around my living room screaming! Seb Short, Colchester.
