A handful of our Academy players were in action on the international stage earlier today (Tuesday, May 19).

In New Zealand, Cameron Carter-Vickers and the US Under-20 National Team continued their preparations for the forthcoming FIFA Under-20 World Cup with a 2-1 friendly victory over Australia.

Centre-half Cameron completed the full game, with Spurs Academy colleague Tom Glover on the bench as Australia’s substitute goalkeeper. The States open their World Cup Group A campaign against Myanmar on May 30, followed by matches with New Zealand on June 2 and Ukraine on June 5.

Meanwhile, in Bulgaria today, Ismail Azzaoui and Belgium lost out to France on penalties in the semi-finals of the UEFA Under-17 Championship.

Our young attacker, who has scored three goals at the tournament finals including a brace against Czech Republic, completed the full match as the Red Devils drew 1-1 with Les Bleus – the latter side winning 2-1 in the shootout.

In addition, Marcus Edwards was involved from start to finish as England Under-17s beat Spain on penalties in a FIFA Under-17 World Cup qualifying play-off. After a goalless draw, Marcus stepped up to convert the first England spot kick as the Young Lions won 5-3 in the shootout.
