Our current reserve team captain Alton, still only 21, will lead Colin Calderwood's men out against our fierce rivals at Stevenage Borough on Thursday night (7pm).
Academy players John Sutton, Lee Barnard, Ben Bowditch, Ron Henry, Paul O'Donoghue, David Galbraith, Jamie Slabber, Nicky Wettner, Stephen Kelly, Mark Hughes, Dean Marney have all made their mark at reserve level this season, although they are not likely to feature on the night as they are preparing for next week's FA Youth Cup semi-final first leg against Everton at Goosison Park.
It's a path Alton followed himself on his way to his Premiership debut last season.
He said: "We've had a lot of young players come through and they've been excellent.
"You can see why they've done so well in the FA Youth Cup. They've all come in and done themselves proud."
Did he have any advice? "When I've played with them all I've told them is to continue doing the things they've been doing all season.
"It is harder pace for them but they have to stay calm, it's all part of their process and they've done well to be involved regularly."
The club is in need of a lift so what better way than for the reserve to beat our old foes?
Alton added: "No matter what level you play them at it's always a huge game against Arsenal and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to it.
"They always seem to put a strong team out against us. We know it will be hard but we will be up for it."
Alton Thelwell has paid a glowing tribute to the youngsters who have come through to our reserve ranks this season as he prepares to face Arsenal.
