Spurs U17s 3-2 Millwall

Mark Yeates' wonder goal and another Michael Malcolm double helped our Under-17s clinch the FAPL Group A title from rivals Arsenal at the weekend.

As Arsenal suffered a 2-0 defeat at Bristol City, Malcolm's late strike secured a 3-2 win over Millwall, three points and an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

Jimmy Neighbour's boys didn't have it all their own way though.

After Malcolm buried a loose ball from John Black's fifth-minute corner Millwall hit back with two goals in quick succession to take a 2-1 lead.

But Yeates' masterpiece soon followed. He made a great run between Millwall's central defenders, Mario Noto spotted it and Yeates tenaciously lobbed home from an acute angle 25 yards out as the goalkeeper rushed out to meet him. "Great skill, great goal," described Jimmy later.

The second half failed to match the first but it mattered little when Malcolm timed his run and rose superbly to meet Lee Barnett's cross to head home the title-winning goal.

Jimmy reflected: "It wasn't the best of games. Millwall made it very difficult for us, closed us down quickly and were physically very strong.

"We didn't pass the ball as well as we have recently but we persevered. Credit to the lads, they stuck at it.

"It's great news to have won the section but that's the first hurdle. We now need to win our group in the play-offs and go from there."

Spurs U17s: Rutherford, Perry, Francis, Barnett, Watson, Dobson, Noto, Black, Malcolm, Yeates, Price. Subs: Hicks, Eyre, Jenkins.

Jimmy's reflection on the title win and look ahead to the play-offs will follow soon.
