Fans have quite a choice - from David Howells, Allan Nielsen and Steffen Freund through to Luka Modric, Sandro and Scott Parker.
There are 11 midfielders in the poll - live now on Facebook - and the top two in the voting will go into the team.
Here are the candidates...
David Howells - 1986-1998 - Loyal servant with 335 appearances in all competitions, great on the ball, box-to-box, eye for a goal, FA Cup winner in 1991.
Allan Nielsen - 1996-2000 - Will always be remembered for scoring the winner in 1999 League Cup Final, another all-energy midfielder and Danish international, made 96 Premier League appearances for us.
Steffen Freund - 1999-2003 - Fans favourite, defensive midfielder who loved to lift the team and the crowd with a couple of crunching tackles. Member of Germany's Euro 96 and World Cup 2000 squads, played 102 Premier League games for us, League Cup winner in 1999.
Gus Poyet - 2001-2004 - Strong, technical and a goalscorer from midfield, Gus' character was fantastic around the club. Scored 18 goals in 82 Premier League appearances.
Michael Carrick - 2004-06 - Skilful midfielder, important member of the team that got us into fifth place in 2005-06. Played 64 times for us in the Premier League.
Jermaine Jenas - 2005-present - All-energy, box-to-box midfielder, great at bursting forward from deep, has made 155 appearances in the Premier League, ran the show when we beat Arsenal over two legs in 2008 League Cup semi-final, and in the team that beat Chelsea at Wembley.
Tom Huddlestone - 2006-present - Supremely gifted passer of the ball, played a key role to our Champions League qualification in 2010, League Cup winner in 2008, has made 124 appearances in the Premier League and 180 in total, including 30 games in Europe.
Wilson Palacios - 2009-2011 - Combative midfielder, seen as a key signing midway through the 2008-09 season as we climbed from lower reaches of league. Played 65 times for us in the Premier League before last season's switch to Stoke.
Luka Modric - 2008-present - Perfectly described by national coach Slaven Bilic as a player who appeared to 'have wing mirrors' in the central areas, great on the ball, rarely gives away possession and added a couple of spectacular goals to his CV last season. Has played for us 140 times in the Premier League.
Scott Parker - 2011-present - Enjoyed an outstanding first season at the club in 2011-12, voted Player of the Season by One Hotspur Members and Supporters Clubs, named in the PFA Team of Season and capped it by being named in the England squad and starting every game of Euro 2012.
