A wonderful last-gasp goal from Alex Pritchard handed a Spurs XI a narrow 1-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge in a friendly at Spurs Lodge today.
The attacking midfielder, who also scored a last-minute winner for our Under-18s in their 3-2 win over Watford at the weekend, struck with just two minutes remaining of a game in which chances were at a premium throughout.
Danny Rose led a breakaway and rifled in a shot which the visiting goalkeeper parried away, the ball found its way over to substitute Pritchard on the left flank and he cut inside his defender and curled a delightful right-footed effort past the keeper into the top corner.
Prior to that, neither side were able to carve out clear-cut opportunities as defences dominated proceedings.
The Daggers, who included former Spur Phil Ifil at right-back, posed a threat on the break at times but some good last-ditch tackles prevented them finding a route to goal and, when they did, young goalkeeper Mirko Ranieri was equal to their efforts.
We saw a number of half-chances go begging. John Bostock, Dean Parrett and Rose all had efforts blocked or saved, while our first real opportunity of note fell to Pritchard with 15 minutes left.
Cameron Lancaster chipped the ball in from the right and Pritchard’s half volley was well saved, but there was nothing the Daggers goalie could do to keep out his fine winner.
