Midfielder ‘Clem’ limped out of the action after just six minutes at Ewood Park on Saturday after Garry Flitcroft’s late challenge left him poleaxed.
“That was a blow to us,” admitted boss Glenn afterwards. “We changed it around (from Monday), put Clem in there and within minutes he’s had to come off.
“We don’t know the exact damage but he’s twisted his knee.
“It could be a ligament or a cartilage. We have to assess that over the next few days but the fact that he came off so quickly suggests it was quite painful, so it doesn’t look so good.”
To add insult to injury, Rovers opened the scoring as we reorganised — with Stephen still hobbling off the pitch.
Glenn was not particularly pleased with Flitcroft’s challenge either — the Rovers skipper wasn’t even booked.
“If it was later in the game it would have definitely been a booking,” added Glenn. “Whether it’s in the first minute or the last minute, I think the refs have to make the decision how they see it.
“It was difficult to see the velocity of the tackle from where we were and the referee can only see it from his angle.
“You’d have to ask him why nothing was done but the lad’s got a nasty injury.”
Glenn Hoddle will be sweating over the results of scans on Stephen Clemence’s damaged knee this weekend.
