Jonathan Woodgate believes Darren Bent is thriving on his pre-season opportunities and tips the striker to make a big impact when our Barclays Premier League campaign kicks off.
Darren has bagged an impressive nine goals in our last four summer friendlies, including the opener in Friday's win over Celtic.
And defender Woody is now hoping 'Benty' can carry this form not only into tonight's Feyenoord Jubileum Tournament decider against Borussia Dortmund, but also when the season proper begins against Middlesbrough on August 16.
"He has been fantastic," said Woody, "Benty will score goals when he plays, and I'm sure he will continue to do so in the Premier League."
"He is a hungry player, it was clear from when I came to the Club in January, and I believe he will do really well this season."
Meanwhile, Woody went on to report that David Bentley is settling in quickly following his switch from Blackburn Rovers and suspects our new signings will prove to be an injection of real quality into the squad.
He added: "David has come in and settled really well, so hopefully he will prove to be a good signing for us.
"If you look at the players we have bought in they are top quality. I think it will be a good season for us and we can get in amongst it."
