"Spurs is a good club that is moving forward with a great coaching set-up and a lot of talented players," said the England international, a teammate of Robbie Keane and Paul Robinson during his time at Leeds United, where he began his career having graduated through the ranks at Elland Road.
"We’ve got a great future ahead of us with being in Europe as well as the Carling Cup final and a coach who has also won things during his time with Sevilla.
"I’ve had Robbie Keane texting and ringing me all the time - you know what he’s like! I also know Robbo and JJ from my time with Leeds and Newcastle," added Jonathan, who witnessed the work of Juande at close quarters during his time in Spain.
"I saw Sevilla were a good side while I was playing at Madrid, although I never got the chance to play against them myself.
"His Spanish is probably a little more fluent than mine! I could get by and have a conversation with him, but I might get a bit embarrassed!"
Jonathan played in 16 of Middlesbrough's 23 league games this term, but has not featured in cup football so far and is available for both Carling and UEFA Cup duty.
He believes the productive cup football displayed by us this season will soon transfer towards making a significant impact on the league.
"Over the last three months I feel I’ve developed a lot of consistency in my game. Hopefully I can carry on with the consistency for Spurs.
"Spurs’ cup form has been good and I think we are in a false position in the league considering the quality we have. Hopefully we can climb the table and finish as high as we can. I don’t think a European place is out of the question yet.
"We have an exceptional group of young players with a lot of experience as well.
"I’m 28 now - even though I don’t look it! - so I’ve got to take on the mantle of an experienced player and I’m sure I can live up to it.
"I haven’t played in any cup competitions so far this season because I was rested for those games, so it may be a blessing in disguise!"
