Super Simon bagged his third goal in five games with an exquisite effort in Saturday's 4-0 Premiership win against Fulham.
Boss Glenn Hoddle was quick to praise the Welsh international afterwards, explaining how he's added 'another string to his bow' as far as the squad system was concerned, and you get the feeling Simon is delighted to be out there.
"I just want to bring what I can to the team," said the 22-year-old.
"I'm not a defender by any means and I will try to get forward as much as possible in this position without being stupid, get around the box, try to score goals or try to make goals. It's been going well, especially at home."
Simon immediately placed his goal amongst his best. The crucial third goal, Simon took Darren Anderton's pass on his chest, darted between Rufus Brevett and Andy Melville and appeared to take Edwin van der Sar by surprise with a deft half-volley into the opposite corner.
He reflected: "We wanted to start the second half brightly but they put us under a bit of pressure so to get the third goal and kill them off was great. I was delighted.
"It's probably up there with the best goals I've scored.
"When I had it I came in from the right and I just tried to hook it back from where I came from. I didn't really catch it but it went straight into the corner. I saw the crowd go up behind the goal and that was a great feeling."
Glenn added: "Simon's doing very well. It's not that different attacking-wise if you are playing wide in a four but defensively he's switched on and he's learned quickly.
"There are times when he has to cover and he's taken that on very well. I know possibly where his best position is but that's for the future.
"The squad will be used, players will be rested and we're playing a lot of football. He's proved to me he can play another position and score goals from it, which has got to be great for the lad."
Simon Davies has caught the eye in his new wing-back role although he admits: "I'm not a defender by any means!"
