Win double for Academy

Posted on 9 December 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

A great week for our Academy was capped at the weekend with both the under-17 and under-19 sides securing wins over Wimbledon.

The under-19s, which comprised mostly of the side that triumphed over Portsmouth in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday, followed up with a comfortable 3-0 away win over the Dons, while the under-17s registered a 1-0 victory at Spurs Lodge.

Goals from Lee Barnard, Mark Yeates and Jamie Slabber won the day for the under-19s and coach Pat Holland felt that the result was a continuation of the good work dispayed at Fratton Park earlier in the week.

"In a way it was a carry on from Wednesday evening," beamed Pat. Some of the football played was excellent, with Mark Yeates prominent in a lot of the good stuff."

Kieran McKenna scored the decisive goal for the under-17s, while keeper Nicky Eyre saved a penalty at the other end.

"I think we deserved it in the end because, although it wasn't a great game, we did work hard and I was quite pleased with them," commented coach Jimmy Neighbour.
