Heurelho Gomes insists back-to-back wins against Benfica and Fiorentina have set us up nicely for the big kick-off on Saturday.
The lads responded to last week's loss against Villarreal with impressive wins and performances against the Portuguese champions on Tuesday and the Italians at the Lane on Saturday.
We now enter the final week of preparations for our first match of the Barclays Premier League against Manchester City at the Lane on Saturday, kicking-off at 12.45pm.
Robbie Keane scored twice in the second half including the winner in the final minute as we came from behind twice to beat Fiorentina 3-2. Roman Pavlyuchenko netted in the first half.
"It was a hard game and to win was good for our confidence before the start of the season," said Gomes, who could do little about Fiorentina's goals in the first half.
"A game like that is ideal for preparation and we showed where we are in the second half. We came back well and to come back and win a game like that is important. It was a good win against a difficult team."
Gomes insisted the team learned quickly from the loss against Villarreal. "It's normal to have a result like that in pre-season and you try not to get a bad feeling about it," he added.
"We learn from it, take the best things from the game and then we played well in Benfica and now Fiorentina. As I said, these performances will give us a lot of confidence."
As for City, Gomes said the big spenders were ideal opposition for the opening day. "We all look forward to that game," he said.
"They are a very good side and proved that last season. We started the season against a great side in Liverpool last season and won that game. Let's hope we do the same this season."
