Emmanuel Adebayor looked back at Sunday’s tough test against Sunderland and admitted: “You have to win games like that.”
Roman Pavlyuchenko came off the bench early in place of injured Aaron Lennon and drilled home the only goal of a hard-fought game just after the hour.
That sparked our best spell of the match and Emmanuel was denied twice one-on-one by Sunderland goalkeeper Kieren Westwood as we pushed for a second goal.
It wasn’t to be on the day but Roman’s strike proved enough for our 11th win in the last 13 matches in the Premier League, moving us back into third place.
“I don’t know what happened in the first half,” reflected Ade. “It was tough. You have to be happy with the three points.
“I think we have showed character and personality again.
“No matter what it takes, the most important thing is the three points and we’ve done that again.
“Everyone is happy and now we’re looking ahead to Chelsea on Thursday.”
