Colleagues are key, says Kevin

Recent signing Kevin Wimmer claims our behind-closed-doors friendly against Reading helped him to acclimatise to his new surroundings as part of our defensive unit.

The 22-year-old centre-half lined up in our back four during the first half of Saturday’s 1-0 win at Hotspur Way, joining Kyle Walker, Federico Fazio and Danny Rose on rearguard duty.

Having played his part in keeping the visitors at bay, the Austrian international says he benefitted greatly from working with some of our more experienced defenders as we continue our preparations for the new term.

“For me personally, I’m still a young player so I can learn a lot from people like Danny, Federico and Kyle,” said Kevin.

“This is very important because they are good players and they’re always very calm and focused.

“It’s great to have a chance to play alongside them. For my personal development it’s very good to train and play every week with guys like that. It helps me a lot.”

The former 1. FC Köln defender has also been encouraged by what he’s seen from our wider squad since the start of pre-season training earlier this month and believes Saturday’s match against the Royals was another useful exercise.

“Reading was a good opponent to play and you can see that we are getting better and better every week,” he added. “I think we are going in the right direction.”
