Our new signing was part of his nation’s squad for Sunday’s 1-0 Euro 2016 qualifying victory against Russia in Moscow, the defender maintaining a watching brief from the bench as Marcel Koller’s men kept up their four-point lead at the top of Group G.
With a home clash with Moldova next on the agenda on September 5, Kevin knows he and his compatriots are in the driving seat to reach next summer’s tournament finals in France.
And he says he’d love nothing more than to help his country to qualify on merit – their only previous Euro showing having come in 2008 by virtue of being one of the host nations along with Switzerland.
“We’re a very good team now because every player is playing in the Bundesliga, the Premier League – some of the top leagues in Europe,” said the 22-year-old, who completed his move to White Hart Lane from German side 1. FC Köln earlier this summer.
“That’s important for us and I believe we have a good team, good players and a good chance to reach the Euro finals.
“It would mean a lot to get there, as the country has been waiting so long to achieve that. We qualified in 2008 but that’s because we were the home country and didn’t have to qualify.
“It would be special for the players and the country if we can do it next season. We’re in a good position now but we have to keep going.”
