William Gallas believes a win against Stoke on Saturday could do wonders for our confidence and re-invigorate our season.

Tuesday’s 4-0 Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat at the hands of Real Madrid no doubt dented our spirits.

But the defender is desperate to ensure we qualify for next year’s competition and knows we must therefore claim our first Premier League win in five games as soon as possible.

We sit five points behind fourth placed Chelsea and a further point behind Manchester City despite a game in hand over the men from Eastlands with eight left to play.

Fans at the Lane have not seen a league victory since February 6, and William would love to give our supporters something to cheer after a tough week.

He said: “It would be a great shame if we don’t qualify for the Champions League next year because we have worked so hard throughout the season.

“Now we maybe have to be more focused on our Premier League games and it would be good to win every game now, but we know that will be difficult.

“The teams in front of us are very strong, they play good football and they want to qualify for the Champions League as well.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve won at home so it would be nice to do so on Saturday because the confidence has to come back. We seem to have lost it a little as its been a long time since we’ve won.”
