White Hart World: Mohd Rizwan

Posted on 1 July 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Name: Mohd Rizwan

Age: 26

Country: Singapore

Years Supporting Spurs: 19

I'm a die-hard fan from a far-eastern country, Singapore. I have been a supporter of this great club since 1982 and will always be since the lillywhite blood flows in my veins.

Back in my Singapore there are not many Spurs fans unlike Man U's, Liverpudlians and Arsenal's - but who cares? These are people only support a team when they are successful but will turn their back when the team fail to win trophies.

I have been to the Lane twice to see our games in 1997 and 1998.To me, that is the way to show how committed I am to the club I love. It takes me 11,000km over three continents to get to London, but it is all worthwhile.

Apart from watching Spurs at the Lane, I got to watch them back here in Singapore in 1995 when they came over for a friendly match. At that time, Spurs was represented by great names like Ian Walker, Gary Mabbutt, Teddy Sheringham, Nick Barmby and Darren Anderton.

As you can see, I had four photos where the first one is of me and the fans at what is now called Bill Nicholson Way waiting the arrival of the players. That was before the kick-off of our first home game against Manchester United.

The second picture was taken at the Lane's South Stand after our first home game against Sheffield Wednesday in 1998.Guess why we look so gloomy?

The third picture, seen with Les Ferdinand, was taken during my honeymoon at a SportsCafe in London in September 2000. It was really great to have this photo taken with one of the Spurs player I idolised. To me, he's one of the greatest ever to put on the 'famous white shirt' and he can be very nice and friendly too.

The last picture was when Spurs came to Singapore in 1995 and was seen here with my Singapore National Football Team after the game that ends 1-1. I got this photo from a friend of mine who ironically is a big-shot in Singapore's Arsenal Official Fan club. We are very good friends, but when it comes to the club we support, we can't see eye to eye.

Come On You Spurs. Let's get back to where we belong - winning trophies that is.
