Robbie Keane says he fulfilled a lifelong dream when he walked up the famous steps to lift a Cup at Wembley on Sunday.

Keano has plied his trade in English football for over ten years now without ever reaching a major Final before Sunday, so he describes our Carling Cup success over Chelsea as a moment to savour.

But now our 100-goal striker has already set his sights on his next trophy for the Club, with the UEFA Cup high on the agenda.

He said: “It’s what dreams are made of. When I was a kid growing up on the streets of Dublin I always dreamt of lifting a cup and to do it was very special and something I’ll savour for a long, long time.

“It gives us a taste of what it’s like to win trophies and a lot of our players haven’t had that in this team. You saw the celebrations at the end and it’s amazing – we’ve just won a cup and now we’re talking about the UEFA Cup.

“It just goes to show how hungry these players are. We want to succeed, we want to go on and win even more things.”

On Sunday’s game, Keano added: “Chelsea scored against the run of play so fair play to the lads.

“It’s tough to come from 1-0 down against Chelsea so to beat them shows a lot of resilience, spirit and they way we played at times I thought was brilliant. Overall I thought we were the better team and deserved to win.”
