Posted on 3 February 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Pleat welcomed Jermain Defoe to the club and said he hoped the forward recruit would uphold the fine traditions set by Spurs strikers of the past.

The media was out in force at Spurs Lodge this morning and David described the goals record so far of Jermain as 'quite exceptional'.

"We are delighted to welcome Jermain here, we have a history of great goalscorers from Jimmy Greaves through to Clive Allen and Gary Lineker," began the acting boss.

"We have a mixture of different types of strikers at the moment - they all have different qualities. Jermain's goal record for a 21-year-old is quite exceptional and we hope he enjoys a fine and flourishing career at Tottenham."

"He is a London boy, a British boy and his signing is in keeping with our policy of trying to develop a young team with prospects to really improve."

Jermain will be paraded at the Lane tomorrow before the FA Cup encounter with Man City - click HERE for ticket news.
