Trailing 1-0 against the reigning champions with 15 minutes remaining, Clint Dempsey’s equaliser sparked an amazing sequence of three goals in seven minute to completely change the picture at White Hart Lane.
Jermain Defoe blasted us into the lead on 79 minutes and Gareth Bale clipped home a delightful third to secure a crucial victory.
“The last 15 minutes were fantastic,” said Benoit, who celebrated his 200th appearance for us. “It showed our mentality.
“It showed that as a team, we never give up. Like you saw, if we don’t give up, we can do many things. Never give up is the phrase for today!”
City looked good for their 1-0 lead but Andre Villas-Boas’ three substitutions – the arrival of Tom Huddlestone, Lewis Holtby and Jermain – appeared to galvanise the team.
“ It was 1-0 at half-time but the manager told us that it’s only one goal and if we scored one, we’d come right back into the game,” added Benoit. “That’s what we did.
“When we scored one we had enough energy. The supporters were also right behind us and that’s very important.”
