'We had a feeling we could do something' - Jan

Jan Vertonghen told us after last week's win at Carlisle that we could be positive at United on Saturday. It's fair to say he delivered!

The full-back gave us the perfect start with a goal inside two minutes as we dominated the first half on the way to a historic 3-2 win at Old Trafford.

Jan produced a typical burst forward to open the scoring, playing a one-two with Gareth Bale, surging into the penalty area and finishing from 12 yards.

Gareth added the second with another great strike on the counter-attack as we put United to the sword in that opening 45 minutes.

The second half was a different story as United, inspired by the arrival of Wayne Rooney, pushed us back. The teams shared three goals in two minutes and at 3-2 up with 35 minutes remaining, we were forced to defend for our lives.

"We were 2-0 up, 3-1 up and then 3-2 up and you just want to win the game," said Jan. "Then we had to defend, because Paul Scholes was dictating the game. He was amazing. I’m so happy we won here.

"It was a great start for us and for me, it was amazing to score at Old Trafford.

"We had a feeling we could do something here. We have a lot of pace in our team with Jermain, Gareth and Aaron Lennon. That’s why we were positive.

"We had a good feeling and from the first moments, we tried to press them and tried to attack. The second half was a different story, but it was an amazing performance."

Jan could see what it meant to everyone to secure that first win at Old Trafford in 23 years.

"Yes, I could see the supporters and everyone around me at the club, everyone was so happy about this victory and not just that, but because United is one of the biggest teams in history. We were delighted to win."
