The League One side pushed us all the way - especially in the first half - but we created numerous chances and secured a trip to Norwich City in the fourth round thanks to goals from Jan Vertonghen, Andros Townsend and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The team showed eight changes from Sunday’s win against QPR including full Spurs debuts for Ryan Mason and Adam Smith and first starts of the campaign for Carlo Cudicini, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Yago Falque.
“It wasn’t easy in the first half, Carlisle played well,” said Assistant Coach Steffen.
“It was a fantastic ground, a fantastic pitch, there was a lot of home support and everything prepared for a big game.
“It was a test for our young team but in the end we created chances and deserved to win.
“Jan Vertonghen is in top form, a fantastic performance, but the whole team deserved to win that game.
“Michael Dawson came back in and played well as skipper, he led the team with Tom Huddlestone in front of him. I’m really happy because we won 3-0 and kept a clean sheet.”
The date for our trip to Carrow Road has yet to be confirmed, but fourth round ties will be played during the week commencing October 29.
