Wilson Palacios and Honduras' World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread.

Wilson Palacios and Honduras' World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread.

The midfielder covered every blade of grass but could do little to stem the tide of Spanish attacks as the pre-tournament favourites beat his side 2-0 in Group H on Monday night.

After a surprise defeat to Switzerland in their opener, Spain turned on the style with David Villa grabbing both goals at Ellis Park, Johannesburg.

The result means Honduras are bottom of the group without a point but they are not mathematically out of the tournament yet.

However, it would take a footballing miracle - they will need to beat Switzerland at least 3-0 and hope that Spain slip up against Chile in the final group matches on Friday.

The next Spurs interest is with Giovani dos Santos and Mexico as the final round group matches in the tournament kick-off this afternoon.

On loan at Galatasaray in the second half of last season, Gio has impressed as Mexico drew with South Africa and then famously toppled France 2-0 on Thursday night.

They now play Uruguay in the final match in Group A - a draw and both teams will go through at the expense of the hosts and France.

The final group matches take place for the rest of this week.

There are four matches today - Mexico v Uruguay and France v South Africa in Group A both kick-off at 3pm while Argentina v Greece and Nigeria v South Korea in Group B are off at 7.30pm.
