Jermain Defoe could be in line for a starting place when England return to World Cup action tonight.

The Three Lions take on Algeria in their second match in Group C in Cape Town after drawing 1-1 with the USA on Saturday.

Boss Fabio Capello hinted in his pre-match press conference that he was looking at his striking options - Emile Heskey partnered Wayne Rooney against the US - and mentioned JD.

He said: "I think Heskey and Rooney played very well (on Saturday) but I can change the style of the forward.

"I think Heskey is a very important player in terms of movement at this moment but Defoe is also important, like the other players. I have to choose."

However, Rooney and Heskey were paired up in England's final training session so it could again be disappointment for Jermain and Peter Crouch.

Aaron Lennon looks set to start but Michael Dawson is likely to miss out again with Capello calling on Jamie Carragher to partner John Terry in Ledley King's injury absence.

Meanwhile, Giovani dos Santos played his part in a wonderful win for Mexico over France on Thursday night.

Gio played the full 90 minutes as Mexico ran out 2-0 winners in Group A - leaving the French on the brink of going out. Indeed, if Mexico and Uruguay draw their final group match, both sides will progress.
